History of Raksha Bandhan (Lakshmi ji tied rakhi to King Bali) –
King Bali was a great king and was also an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Once he performed a yajna.
He measured the entire earth and sky in two steps. At this, King Bali understood that God was testing him. For the third step he got the Lord’s foot placed on his head.
Laxmiji became worried with this. On Narada’s request, Lakshmiji came in front of King Bali as a poor woman and tied a rakhi to King Bali. Bali said that I have nothing to give you, on this Goddess Lakshmi came in her form and said that you have a real God, I want that I have come to take them. On this, Bali, while playing the religion of Rakshasutra, handed over Lord Vishnu to Mother Lakshmi. Thus lakshmi ji brought Vishnu with him by sacrifice. Goddess Lakshmi freed Lord Vishnu by tying a rakhi to her brother Bali. From this day onwards Rakhi became a festival of siblings.
