1. Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand:
2. Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh:
Holika Dahan takes place on the day of Holi in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.Dhulendiis played on the second day of Holi andRang Panchamiis celebrated on the fifth day. Holi is celebrated with great pomp, especially among the tribals here. In Madhya Pradesh, the tribal areas of Jhabua celebrate the festival of Holi calledBhagoria.
Similarly, Holi is known asHoriin Chhattisgarh and there is a wonderful tradition of folk songs on this festival. Hori begins with Nagade’s beat in Galli Galli. Fag festivities begin on Basant Panchami by the village baiga worshiping the eggs of cookery (hen) in Holwar (where Holi burns) by tying a flag in the wood of virgin babool (new tree of acacia). Everyone gets drenched in the colors and flying gulls raining with colorful pitchers.
3. Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa:
Holi in Maharashtra is known as ‘Phalgun Purnima‘ and ‘Rang Panchami‘. The fishermen society of Goa calls it Shigmo or Shigma.Shigmois called in the local Konkani language of Goa.
In Gujarat, Govinda Holi is popularly celebrated. Govinda Holi meansMatki-PhodHoli is played in the regions of Maharashtra and Gujarat. During this, Rangotsav also goes on.
4. Haryana and Punjab:
Holi in Haryana is known asDulandi or Dhulendi. Holi is called ‘Hola Mohalla‘ in Punjab. During Holi in Haryana, Bhabhis beat their devars and their brothers are in the habit of dyeing them all day. At the same time, ‘Hola Mohalla‘ is organized at Anantapur Sahib on the next day of Holi in Punjab. It is believed that this tradition was started by the tenth and last Sikh Guru, Guru Govind Singhji.

Holi in West Bengal and Odisha is known as ‘Basant Utsav‘ and ‘Dole Purnima’. On the occasion of Dole Purnima, a palanquin of an ornate statue of God is taken out. Everybody dances and sings and puts colors on each other and makes fun of death.

People in Tamil Nadu remember Holi as a sacrifice of Cupid. That is why here Holi is calledKaman Pandigai, Kamavilas and Cama-Dahnam. In Karnataka, we celebrate the festival of Holi asKamna Habba. A similar Holi is also held in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana.
7. Manipur and Assam:
In Manipur it is calledYoshang or Yaosang. The day of Dhulendi here is calledPichkari. Assam calls it ‘Phakuwah’ or ‘Deol‘. Holi is also celebrated in Tripura, Nagaland, Sikkim and Meghalaya. This festival of colors is celebrated in Manipur for 6 days. Also, the traditional dance ‘Thabal Chongba‘ is also organized here on this festival.
8. Uttarakhand and Himachal:
Holi is celebrated as a different type of music festival, which is calledsitki Holi, Khadi Holi and Mahila Holi. Here Kumauni Holi Holi Famous Kumauni Holi is played in three ways. First sitting Holi, second standing Holi and third female Holi. From the day ofBasant Panchami, Holiyars sing Holi from house to house every evening and this festival lasts for about 2 months.
